This coloured pencil sketch captures the joyful spirit of a baby elephant, drawn as though it is happily running toward you. Set against the natural white background of the paper, the simplicity of the composition allows the character and movement of the little elephant to shine through. Soft grey tones shape the gentle form of the elephant, while warm touches of pink, red, and yellow glow subtly through the shadowed areas, adding warmth, life, and a delicate softness to the piece.

This piece was inspired by my daughter and by my deep love for elephants. These incredible animals are enormous in size, yet they carry such beautiful, expressive personalities. They are playful, mischievous, and incredibly gentle — true gentle giants of the natural world. Yet when they need to protect their young or their herd, they become powerful and formidable, a reminder of the strength that lies within their calm nature.
Through this drawing, I wanted to celebrate that wonderful contrast — the playful innocence of a young elephant and the deep admiration I feel for these magnificent animals. It is a delicate piece filled with warmth, joy, and the simple happiness that comes from observing the beauty and spirit of the natural world.
